Info regarding the lyrics and recording the music:
After the scenes in “Rime of the Ancient Mariner”, Santiago takes the boat to Ensenada, where he sells it. He then travels to his hometown of Nogales where he is reunited with his wife and son. They travel far south to the town of Ixtapa, where they live anonymously and happily for 20 years.

I like this picture because it represents a mythical powerful romance (Tristan and Iseult), like Romeo and Juliet or Lancelot and Guinevere. The latter were not chosen because Romeo and Juliet both die young, which didn’t really fit the story, and in the case of Lancelot and Guinevere their love was adulterous, which also did not fit.

I even questioned whether this one was appropriate, because their love was actually caused by a potion, effectively taking the matter out of their hands.

But then I thought, “Well, isn’t that really true of all love? It is a feeling we can’t control caused by hormones and endocrines affecting our bodies, thoughts and feelings”.

It seems that almost all classical romances are tragedies, which I suppose says something about our ancestor’s collective view regarding love.
